Time flies: We sent out the last newsletter in February when the orchard was deep in hibernation. Meanwhile, Spring has rushed by and we can almost watch the apples sizing up.
So far it's looking like a very good apple year. A dry spring without late frost provided ideal conditions for blossoming and pollination. The fruit set is phenomenal - almost too much of a good thing. We will probably have to intervene here and there to prevent branches from breaking under the load: support posts may be needed; and perhaps some judicious summer pruning further up in the crown where no support can reach. But first we'll await the June drop - which usually occurs in July at our elevation.
Cider Club
Summer brings a new Cider Club delivery. You still have until the end of the month to register and secure this package (information on membership and benefits can be found here). The shipment goes out at the beginning of July.
At the moment we are finalizing the selection. It's not easy to narrow it down to just 3 bottles. As always, the package contains some new and seasonal offerings, alongside perennial favorites. Here's a teaser: one bottle is fundamentally different from anything we have produced in the past 6 years. Get yours and find out.
1785 Cider On Tour
In the coming months we will be attending several national and international events. We would be delighted to see you there! Regardless of our presence, we highly recommend visiting any of these events.
July 4 - 6: Agrikultur Festival in Freiburg - get to know sustainable producers from the region
August 22 and 23: Pom Pom Ciderfestival in Brussels - the one and only! After a hiatus last year, we're back again.
October 25 - 28: SISGA25 in Gijon, Spain - an international cider festival in Asturias, one of the most important cider regions in Europe.
New Releases
Last but not least, some news from the cellar. We were hoping to introduce a new, low alcohol summer drink made from sugar-reduced pear juice. But not every new product idea works out right away. The first attempt was promising, but not quite up to our standards. We have learned a few things and will try again this season.
But there are a couple of new ciders on offer: Tart Cherry and Bourbon Barrel. As always, you can find all the details on our website. |
