Gelbmöstler 2023, single varietal

Like the Schweizer Wasserbirne, the Gelbmöstler Pear was introduced to Baden-Württemberg in the 19th century.
It is an early ripening variety with a pleasantly sweet and gentle flavor. This perry pear is noted for ripening on the tree – when it finally falls to the ground it must be processed immediately before it becomes too soft to handle. During harvest season we visit these trees every few days to gather and press small batches of ripe fruit. A laborious process, but worth it to obtain the sweet juice.
Gelbmöstler regularly features in our Cuvée blend. In 2023 we were able to also produce this single-varietal perry: an opportunity to get to know this pear and understand its unique flavor contribution to our blends.

Art
Our single-varietal perries are quite rare and special, so we decided to create some equally unique labels for them. Luckily we had already obtained a number of drawings from Johannes Bienefeld, a young artist in Stuttgart, which are perfectly suited for this project.
Each of the drawings is a single line, defining an abstract shape with some figurative elements. A single line, a single pear … in both cases, the limitation helps to focus attention on the essentials.
