After "only" 5 years, the first perry pear trees are blossoming: Hendre Huffcap and Thorn. Maybe it wasn't just for the heirs.

Southwest Germany, medium large, green turning to yellow, smooth skin, many with russet patches, sweet,  low acid, quite tannic.
We've been collecting quite a few this year but still haven't identified them.

You haven't heard from us much lately, as we race You haven't heard from us much lately, as we race to move our entire operation to a new location before harvest begins in earnest in a few weeks. It's crazy right now, but we are looking forward to getting out of our currently very cramped space.
Meanwhile you can help facilitate our move by ordering lots of bottles, so we don't need to lug them over as well. 😁
The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago; the The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago; the second best is today; and third best is 2018 when we started our little 2 acre meadow orchard of cider apples and perry pears.

An orchard of standard trees is definitely a long term commitment. Especially if you are working with your own grafts, rather than 3 year old nursery stock, and eschewing chemical inputs. 6 years later, what was once just a sad little stick is looking like a proper small tree. Still a long way to go before they attain their mature grandeur, but growth is now accelerating each year. We are actually seeing the first mini-crops of apples. 

Meanwhile, with a better understanding of suitable varieties, we are regrafting individual trees. Grafts are looking really good after ample rain this spring. Can you spot the Sweet Coppin @rosscider?

Ever since @adamhwells announced his intention to Ever since @adamhwells announced his intention to write a book on perry we've been anxiously waiting. Could it be? Would it be? Well here it is - and it lives up to our very high expectations.

Engaging, educational, entertaining, inspiring - it's all of those and more. Not many writers could have pulled it off. Thank you Adam!

This is the book perry deserves. And the book perry needs right now, at a pivotal moment where aspirational perry is being made by more producers and in higher quality than ever, while it is simultaneously under threat from many sides.

Buy the book, share a perry with friends, and perhaps perry can finally break out of its niche and be recognized for the incredible drink that is is.

The cidery has warmed up to 15C and MLF is kicking The cidery has warmed up to 15C and MLF is kicking off. Our fruit does really well with a good MLF, so we're not in a hurry at all to bottle - usually 9 to 12 months after pressing. Slow cider indeed.
